Fike Is Named Reader's Choice For Explosion Protection Systems
Blue Springs, MO, August 19, 2008 – Fike is proud to announce it has been named Chemical Processing magazine 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards survey winner for explosion protection systems.
Now in its fifth year, the award is based on a questionnaire sent to Chemical Processing readers via e-mail notices and electronic newsletters. Readers were given specific instructions to vote on their favorite technology provider in 45 different categories. By not providing a pre-selected list of companies in each category, readers avoided any influenced opinions and were free to list whomever they wanted. Fike has been listed as the top company for explosion protection systems every year since the survey began.
Fike Introduces Fire Alarm Event Management Systems
Blue Springs, MO, October 8, 2008 – Fike Alarm Systems is proud to announce the release of its newest products, the Precise Vision™ and Precise Touch™ computer-based event management systems.
Created to help control and monitor facilities during emergency situations, Precise Vision allows facility managers and/or key personnel the ability to respond to alarm and trouble situations with just a few easy clicks -- gaining access to building floor plans, emergency contacts, and security plans. In addition, Precise Vision has the capability to inform appropriate personnel via email about alarm situations.
Precise Touch is an intuitive computer graphics package designed for use in public locations so that responders can quickly locate an alarm situation, view floor plans, identify potential hazards and find emergency exit routes. This intelligent device is also powered with knowledge to locate where a fire started, how it is progressing and what potential hazards may exist, so personnel can quickly locate the nearest exit route.
Gas, Vapour and Dust Explosion Hazards, Protection, Mitigation and Prediction
Course Offered Through Leeds University:
March 22- 26, 2010
University of Leeds - Leeds, UK
Jef Snoeys, Manager Explosion Protection Technology for Fike, has been asked to join a panel of experts addressing dust explosion hazards, protection and mitigation. Set to be held at School of Process, Environmental and Materials Engineering, the Houldsworth Building at the University of Leeds, the course is designed for engineers and scientists involved in both the offshore sector, the onshore chemical process and nuclear industries.
The field of explosion prediction and mitigation is continuously developing with new recommendations and findings being identified, especially in the wake of disasters such as those realized at Flixborough and Piper Alpha.
Jef Snoeys will present on the following vital topics:
- Explosion venting and flameless explosion venting: product, performance, vent system design, examples and case studies
- Explosion suppression: product performance, system design, examples and case studies
The Explosion Hazards CPD coursehas been approved for 33 CPD hours in total by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). This course also forms part of an MSc Masters program (full time or part time) in Fire and Explosion Engineering. Modules of this MSc may also be taken individually or as part of a coherent course to meet personal needs for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). For more information on the MSc please visit the website at http://www.engineering.leeds.ac.uk/fire
Introduction of Explosion Isolation Pinch Valve
In addition to Fike’s fast acting mechanical slide gate valve and the chemical barrier system, Fike now offers a pneumatically operated Explosion Isolation Pinch Valve - EIPV.
The Fike EIPV, used in conjunction with other Fike explosion protection system components, provides a cost-effective solution to prevent deflagration propagation through interconnecting pipes or conveying lines to additional process equipment or operating locations.
The EIPV uses a heavy duty food grade elastomeric sleeve, high-speed solenoid valves, pneumatic accumulator, high and low pressure alarm switches and shut off/bleed/manual operation valves.
The unit can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, has undergone extensive testing and has blocked explosion pressures of 3 Bar. Major advantages include the ability of the EIPV to be reset by the site users after an activation, the unit being virtually maintenance free and the capability for it to be supplied by readily available plant air.
The EIPV is fully tested with CE and ATEX certification.
