Explosibility testing provides a basis for safe plant design, operating parameters, and handling procedures. In addition to the research and development work that Fike completes on its own products, we offer a wide range of explosibility tests designed to assist companies in identifying and mitigating costly explosion hazards. It is often necessary to locate process equipment indoors, making passive explosion venting, difficult or impossible. Fike has developed several flameless explosion venting solutions that allow you to safely and economically protect equipment, without the need to relocate process machinery or the use of expensive explosion vent duct work.
Explosion Isolation
Total explosion risk management must include ways for preventing crippling business downtime and minimizing the devastation of equipment, facility and potential life loss. Fike's effective Explosion Isolation systems detect and mechanically or chemically block the flame pathways, preventing the spread of an explosion from one part of the process to another.
Mechanical Explosion Isolation involves the use of uniquely designed mechanical valves which are designed to close within milliseconds of detecting an explosion, preventing the spread of flames and pressure (in both directions). Explosion Isolation Valve (EIV) - Designed to close within milliseconds of detecting an explosion, Fike’s Explosion Isolation Valve (EIV) prevents the spread of flames and pressure (in both directions).
Fike Explosion Isolation Pinch Valve (EIPV) - Upon explosion detection, compressed air is released at high speed and within milliseconds the elastomeric sleeve of the Fike Explosion Isolation Pinch Valve (EIPV) is “pinched” to full closure, stopping explosion propagation. The EIPV is designed to provide an economical way to prevent deflagration propagation.
Chemical Explosion Isolation is achieved through a rapid discharge of a chemical explosion suppressant to prevent the flame from continuing through to other areas of your process system.
Explosion Suppression
Fike Explosion Suppression systems are designed to detect and chemically suppress an explosion in its earliest stages-before an explosion can cause a disaster or become catastrophic. While unsuppressed explosion pressures reach dangerous levels in less than 50 milliseconds, Fike's unique technology can detect and respond to an explosion event in less than 1 millisecond - averting a catastrophe!
Fike’s innovative actuators release suppressant agents without an explosive charge and have a 10-year shelf life. Patented container and nozzle designs minimize flow restrictions, extinguishing the explosion faster and minimizing pressure build-up inside process equipment.
Explosion Protection Detection and Control
EPACO® explosion detection and control system by Fike represents the most advanced safety technology available in today's explosion protection market. EPACO is pre-configured to recognize danger signs and make important decisions about when to activate explosion isolation and/or explosion suppression systems, effectively preventing an explosion from damaging your equipment and facility. EPACO not only tells you where the trouble is, it also tells you what the problem is and when it happened.
